Submissions Close November 4

Workshops are an opportunity for members of the plant science community to build important soft skills that are critical for professional success. The Program Committee is particularly interested in topics that have not been presented in the last few years, including but not restricted to mental health, career roundtables for undergraduate students, etc.

Workshop organizers are encouraged to incorporate principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in the organization and target audience of the session.

Process: The Program Committee will review the abstracts for new and up-to-date information on the workshop topic, relevance, and value to the community. The committee also encourages submissions from early career researchers who can conduct or help develop the workshop.

Although external sponsorship is not required, it is certainly welcomed, so if you are aware of a potential sponsorship opportunity for your workshop, please provide the potential sponsor’s contact information to Jennifer Covington for follow-up.

Format: Workshops may be offered in person, virtually, or both. Virtual workshops may be scheduled before or after the in-person event and will be available to all registered attendees.

Workshop Duration: Workshops may be offered in the following time slots:

  • 30 minutes (virtual only)
  • 60 minutes (virtual and in-person)
  • 90 minutes (virtual and in-person
  • 120 minutes (virtual and in-person)

Workshop Proposal Evaluation Criteria

Please review the following guidelines before submitting a concurrent symposium proposal

  • To ensure that we have a high quality and inclusive conference, ASPB’s program and equity, diversity, and inclusion committees are collaborating in recruiting and selecting workshop proposals. The organizers should consider the ASPB speaker diversity rubric, particularly in regard to career stage, institution type, and identity.
  • Describe the elements of the workshop (e.g., virtual breakout rooms, small group discussions, etc.), why that format is appropriate for your proposed workshop, and how each of the presenters will contribute to the workshop.
